Unstacking The Shelves (2)

(Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews)

Please read!
Un-Stacking The Shelves is my version of Stacking the Shelves. It's dedicated to removing the books from my shelves, not adding to them and so the books mentioned below are the ones I read this week.

Although I still bought some books this week...

(Any comments telling me to enjoy my new books will be deleted as spam.)

Last week I noticed that Waterstones in Bradford has a twitter account announcing that they're the most beautiful bookshop in the UK. Well, Bradford is practically next door to my city and only a bus ride away so I immediately planned to go. I went this Wednesday and it was so worth it.

Apart from a gorgeous bookstore that is a converted Wool Exchange (apparently), and it just happens to have an upstairs cafe, Bradford is filled with many, many charity shops - which means even more books to rummage through. Needless to say I did pick up quite a few! Here's the pictures I took of the Waterstones:

The outside is just as beautiful as the outside. Who would think that this was a bookstore?
Taken from the upstairs cafe. Not going to lie, most of this trip was spent walking in circles because it's just so beautiful!
The important bit - the teen section! If you look really carefully you might spot some John Green books.
This gigantic statue is also present. Want an idea of size? Look at the height of the bookshelves behind him. Apparently his name is Richard Cobden and he was an English manufacturer and Radical and Liberal statesman.
Books Read This Week

Fall For Anything - Courtney Summers (5/5)
Dollhouse - Anya Allyn (5/5)
Cuckoo Song - Frances Hardinge (4/5)
Adaptation - Malinda Lo (5/5)
To All The Boys I've Loved Before - Jenny Han (3/5)

  2. Wow, that Waterstone's is so much prettier than the Edinburgh one, and that one is super beautiful as well. I got To All the Boys I've Loved Before this week, but I'm not quite sure whether I should read it ASAP, or leave it for summer holiday...
Happy reading and have a good weekend!

    1. Yes, I really enjoyed it! I found it a little slow in some places but loved how unique it was. Adaptation is very high on my favourite read list this year, I highly recommend it.

  7. Wow, I think this has to be the definition of a bookworms dream bookshop, I'd spend hours in just one section! Love the pictures. I'm on the fence with 'To all the boys I've loved before', I might leave it for now, but I'll definitely read it at some stage. Have a great weekend =)

  9. Oh. my. gosh. THIS POST IS JUST CRUEL. I am absolutely drooling over that gorgeous library...omg it is gorgeous and you're so lucky and I'm so jealous!! XDD Our library is in an old building that used to be a school. It's about 100 years old, but that hasn't made it beautiful and magnificent...it's made it falling apart and in need of new air conditioners. -_- You've made great reading progress this week! I read about..um...3 books. >.< I've been SO slack lately!

    1. Just to make you a little more jealous, let me show you my library: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stagedoor/8591060513/nearby/?show=detail&fromfilter=1&by=everyone&taken=alltime&sort=mostrecent There's some random pictures in there but basically it's beautiful and attached to both a giant cafe and an art gallery. I love my city!

  10. I went to Bradford Waterstones a few years ago, back when I still lived in York, and had to be dragged out of there when the store closed! It is absolutely stunning isn't it? Definitely one of the nicest bookshops I've been to, although one of the Waterstones branches in Reading is a converted chapel and really gorgeous too.

I have Cuckoo Song to read but as I'm a huge Frances Hardinge fan I keep putting it off in case I'm disappointed, maybe I'll start it this week :)

    1. I love York! I fork out for the ride over every so often because it's so pretty there. I want to move them someday. I don't think you'll be disappointed by Cuckoo Song at all, it was the first of hers that I read and it's amazing. The reason I rated it 4/5 was just because it was a little slow in places.

  11. That Waterstones looks stunning. I love pretty bookshops, you feel so much happier buying books in a place that's pretty than when you're in a shopping centre or wherever.

Also, I'm impressed with the number of books you've read, I simply don't have the time. I'm still waiting to receive my copy of To All The Boys I've Loved Before, but it's for the best. I have so many new books waiting to be read.

  13. Waterstone's is indeed a very beautiful looking place. You really stacked up this week. Like that it has charity shops, that is awesome things you can get for a reasonable amount of money. I like Un-Stacking the shelves, it has an interesting ring to it.

  19. That is a gorgeous library! Definitely worth a bus ride! I loved To All The Boys I've Loved Before but I was disappointed with the ending. I didn't want it to stop with Dear Peter! I wanted to hear her letter and see them make up! And I was curious where things would go with Josh. I thought it would probably be best if they were all friends. I didn't think he should get back with Margot. I also was disappointed we didn't get to hear all the letters. I especially wanted to hear the one to Josh. But overall I enjoyed it and read it in two sittings. Thanks for stopping by!

  25. Wow, that bookstore is amazing! I am jealous! I would need like, a second mortgage if I ever went there ;) And, I am pretty jealous about all the reading you've done too! I don't think I finished a single book this week, that is pretty bad.

  26. LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! That is gorgeous! I wish I could get out of the USA and tour Europe - I'm stuck here! Oh well. I shall live vicariously through you :D

  27. Oh gosh, that looks like heaven for booknerds. What's that on top of the shelves though, it looks almost like indoor solar panels, but that can't be right. What are they? I have no idea what a wool exchange is, it looks more like a cathedral with those windows. Just divine.

Just curious, seeing how utterly beautiful it is, is it any more expensive than normal prices elsewhere?

    1. It's just a grate of some sort at the top of the shelves, all Waterstones have them. Maybe to protect the wiring for the lighting or something.

It's exactly what it sounds like - Bradford used to create a lot of Wool so this would be where you'd go to buy it. Or exchange it for goods.

It's the same prices as all the Waterstones in the UK, too. It's basically the same everything, except in a beautiful building!

  28. Wow, I want to go to that bookstore so bad!!! Kind of sucks that it is so far away from me. You read a lot of books this week, a lot of amazing ones too as you gave most 5 stars. I am really looking forward to reading To All The Boys, sad to see it only got 3 stars from you.

  41. OOh what a beautiful bookshop! It makes me want to visit Bradford! Our Waterstones is pretty small and poky and I don't have the energy to get the bus or train into the city to visit the big one in Glasgow. Thanks for visiting, sorry I took so long to visit back!
