Stacking The Shelves (30/08/2014)

This week has been one of the longest weeks ever, I swear. Our kitchen is nearly finished, with only small things like sealing the worktops to finish, thank goodness! We're getting our stuff back from storage on Monday, including our cooker. I am so excited about a cooked meal you have no idea.

We nearly ended up with orange paint. ORANGE.

(Here's all my excuses for the books I) Acquired This Week

My copy of Austenland finally arrived! I had to have a copy of this after seeing the movie and falling in love with JJ Feild. I've been waiting for it for about 3 weeks though. Asda got new books in and when they get new books, I buy them. How could anyone sniff at £4 for Trial By Fire a day earlier than it's release and Messenger of Fear for £6? Crazy people, that's who. I don't remember when I ordered Sever but I'm happy because it's the same size of the rest of my set - which is huge. I have no idea why these UK editions are so freaking big, they look ridiculous.

Read This Week (23rd Aug - 29th Aug)

I have magical reading powers and far too much time on my hands. Although I am starting to worry that people will think I'm lying about what I've read! My least favourite book this week was Walk Of The Spirits. A girl seeing ghosts sounds like my perfect read but this story just dragged on and on while the main character thought a lot about everything. Her whining put Bella to shame. My favourite reads were Killing Sound and Tandem, I honestly couldn't pick between them. Tandem was a multi-dimensional tale of princesses and forbidden love, while on the other hand, Killing Sound was a brutal, bloody read that will likely have me terrified of the London Underground for the rest of my life...

  1. Ugh I hate having the workmen in! We had them in to install a wet room style shower in June and as well as the bathroom being in upheaval they had to work in the kitchen to fit in drainage pipes and box them in and for some reason the electrics box is hidden in the cupboard in my dad's room so we had to empty all the junk in our house from there to let them in. It was the week from hell but they did a great job. Your kitchen looks really nice but I shudder at the thought of orange paint!

Ooh I'm intrigued by horror on the Underground! I might need to look at that. I've been terrified of being in Underground stations since I saw An American werewolf in London...

    1. Killing Sound is so amazing - brutal and bloody though, right from the first chapters. I spent most of the time wondering how he even got it accepted as a YA book!

  7. I hate having people come in and do work in the apartment. Oh well. Mother is supposed to get the floor people come in and install it. That's something that I'm not looking forward to.

  11. I've been curious about Trial By Fire but apprehensive because of the mixed reviews. :D And I still have to read the second and third book of the Chemical Garden Trilogy. I wasn't so impressed with the first one, Sever, so I am not so keen in picking up the sequel. :D

Homecooked meals are the best! Yum!

  12. I am really hoping to read Trial By Fire next week. I know what you mean about how big the UK book is for Sever :) I have Killing Sound, and now I am very intrigued why it makes you terrified of the London Underground ;)

  13. Ugh, we had ours done the other year and it was hell, it took two 2 1/2 weeks alone to just do the kitchen since they messed up the sizes. And then another two weeks to do the bathroom because of the tiler. We had to go down my cousins just to shower, but totally get what you mean, a proper cooked meal, enjoy! ;) DANGEROUS BOYS. I still haven't recovered, and seriously, I want your reading power. :P

  14. Funnily enough, I just finished watching Austenland before I came on here! (3rd time watching it haha) Yes, I love JJ Field as well!! Did you know that he is in another Jane Austen film adaptation? He is in Emma!!

Messenger of Fear was brilliant! Warning though, do not go out and look for reviews! It is better not knowing what to expect in this book!!!

Ohh, I've been wanting to read Tandem, plus it doesn't help that the cover is gorgeous.

    Happy Reading!

    1. He's not in Emma as far as I'm aware but he is in Northanger Abbey! It's strange, a couple of weeks ago before I saw Austenland I saw a glimpse of The Railway Children on TV and thought, that guy really looks like Tom Hiddleston - I've just now worked out who it was!

  15. I recently read Trial by Fire and ended up really enjoying it. I struggled at first but thought it was a great read overall. I have been seeing a lot of Austenland lately, both the movie and the book, it's made me very curious and tempted to try that one myself. Wow, 8 books in 1 week is impressive. I'm not sure I even managed to read 8 books this month, which is rather embarrassing.

  16. Your kitchen looks fabulous! I loved tiled rather than the glass or perspex splashbacks, it always looks much more inviting. I'm still undecided on Trial By Fire, it seems that it's one of those titles that readers so far have either loved or loathed with a passion, so looking forward to seeing what you think of it. Love book bargains, and so cheap even before it's release too! I'd be snapping them as well.

Fingers crossed you can get back into the kitchen soon. Couldn't agree more, there's nothing like a home cooked meal <3

Ooh, I love your remodeled kitchen. Looks like you've got plenty of room to move around, which is always good thing when your cooking!

And I have ARC's of both Trial By Fire and Messenger of Fear, and I'm sooo excited to read them both! I hope you enjoy all your new goodies, and thanks for stopping by my STS @ Addicted Readers! :)

  19. Your kitchen looks great! I am sure it is awful having the remodel done, but the results are fantastic!

I really want to read Trial by Fire (I won an ARC, but I am having issues with my mail, so who knows) and Messenger of Fear! And I really want to read Dangerous Boys and The Merciless, so I am glad to see they are not on your least favorite list ;) You have me super intrigued by Tandem too! Hope you have a wonderful week (and that home cooked meal)!

  20. Ahhh, pretties! Walk of the Spirits is gorgeous! And I LOVED Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini :D I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

It seems like a great idea not having to cook, but eating out gets old quickly! Thankfully, you have your kitchen back! And why would we not believe you? I know that there are people out there that read 500 books a year easily. I wish I could! Happy reading :)
